TREE CARE SERVICES

TREE PRUNING

Expert Pruning

Our most common service is tree pruning. Our arborists closely follow the ANSI A-300 tree care standards that have been specified by the International Society of Arboriculture. There are several types of pruning that we perform. Specific objectives for pruning are necessary to maintain a tree in a healthy, safe, and attractive condition.

1. ** Crown cleaning **: the removal of dead, dying, diseased, crowded, weakly attached, and low-vigor branches from the crown of a tree.
2. ** Crown thinning **: the selective removal of branches to increase light penetration and air movement through out the crown. Thinning opens the foliage of a tree, reduces weight on heavy limbs, and helps retain the tree’s natural shape.
3. ** Crown raising **: the removal of the lower branches from a tree in order to provide clearance for buildings, vehicles, pedestrians, or views.
4. **Crown reduction **: reduces the size of a tree, often for clearance for utility lines. Reducing the height or spread of a tree is best accomplished by pruning back the leaders and branch terminals to lateral branches that are large enough to assume the terminal roles (at least one-third the diameter of the cut stem). Compared to topping, reduction helps maintain form and structural integrity.

We will not top your trees, Nor will anyone that knows about trees or cares about safety. PLEASE DONT TOP TREES!

LIGHTNING PROTECTION

Lightning Protection

A lightning protection system installed by our arborists can protect a tree from damage due to lightning strikes. Even though it takes many years to grow a huge, magnificent tree, it takes less than a second for lightning to strike and destroy it! A lightning protection system doesn’t keep a tree from being struck by lightning. Instead it conducts the electricity into the soil in a safe manner. A system of copper cables and lightning rods, similar to a system found on a building, are placed near the highest points in your tree and run down the trunk and into the soil to a ground rod placed away from the tree’s main root area. Lightning protection systems have been used for many years to protect historic trees, trees on golf courses or where ever people congregate. It is recommended that trees which have trunks located within 10 feet of a protected building, and have branches of which extend to a height above a building, be equipped with lightning protection not only to protect the tree, but also to avoid the possibility of lightning striking the tree and side flashing or grounding to the nearby structure.
